Military Funeral Flag Presentation

Posted on March 8, 2010.
Military Funeral Flag PresentationWhat is the protocol for the presentation of the flag recipient at a military funeral?

My father died and my mother has been missing for 12 years now. I am the oldest woman with four children (two sisters and one brother). It is customary for the wife of the deceased to receive the flag, but because my mother is already dead, which would be the flag go? My brother said he went to the oldest male of the immediate family, then the oldest male, etc. I think it goes to the other parent, what would be the oldest children of the deceased . My father has left no specific instructions as to his preference is. What is the correct answer?

Your brother is right. The tradition is always the eldest receives the flag unless it was done differently. If both my husband and I were to die in active service. Our oldest daughter Heather will receive the flag for our family. We will do our best and trust should something happens to one of us.

who will receive the flag at the funeral would you like a family, the oldest man could recover the funeral BU theres no reason he gives constantly to keep it,
after the funeral you could share the flag, get a nice window and every person who wants the flag for a month then return it to the next person etc. etc., take turns to look after him!

The flag is simply the next of kin. Deciding between you and your brothers and sisters who will receive at the funeral. I would say that the person who receives it, he honors a special place in their home.
