Alpine Trees

Posted on March 12, 2010.
Alpine TreesWhy alpine trees leaves good altitiude high regions heavy snowfall. What do they do to survive. ?

Ill be ur best friend!

The leaves have a number of adaptations to cold, snow conditions:

1. They are often shaped needle, which will shed snow easily.

2. They usually have a waxy coating or a high resin content, which provides resistance to cold and desiccation by the wind.

3. The stomata are usually deeply embedded in the surface of the leaf, which gives protection against desiccation.

4. The plants are usually persistent, so that the leaves are already FRO a short growing season.

5. The leaves are often rolled up, giving extra protection against desiccation. (The fact that ground water is often frozen means that, yes, plants are often "drought" conditions).
